This week I finished the Scarlet Letter. I was a little disappointed at the ending but I tend to be a bit of a romantic. I don't understand Hester Prynne's decision to move back to that place. I would think she would choose to live out her days where she was free from rumor and ridicule, but in the end she chose to wear the symbol on her breast more as a remembrance of the love she lost than as the punishment it was originally intended for. Throughout the book I thought Dimmesdale was rather a coward, but that's my personal opinion of course.

The boys and I finished listening to two audio books. The first is Maniac Magee. I read Maniac Magee when I was in school and enjoyed it then as much as I did now. We will read this book again when the boys are older as it is one that I really enjoy. The entire book is based on the concept of the East and the West or blacks and whites. This idea is completely over Bubby's head. I'm not sure how much of the book he understood at all. When we were on disk three of four he suddenly spouted out "is Maniac a kangaroo?". What!? I explained that Maniac was a boy and it was like a light bulb went off in his head. Ohhh! Now the entire story makes sense. Huh.

We also listened to A Cricket in Times Square. Love this book! I read it to myself a while back as it was sitting on our bookshelf. We listened to it during our commute and both of the boys really liked it. Monkey kept asking to listen to his story which is rather unusual. Typically he yells for a song to be turned on. It's a sweet story, the characters are classics for children and there is a bittersweet happily ever after ending. Recommend it to any reader of any age.

We also read Make Way for Ducklings which is a sweet story, as are all of the stories by Robert McCloskey. This is one of our FIAR books so we will be revisiting it later. I read it out loud while the boys were eating lunch. I've been looking for various times during the day to sneak in a little reading time while the boys are all ready sitting still. It doesn't happen vary often. I love the illustrations in this book, and that it is a over sized compared to many children's books.
